The H20, H10, H5 and E5 are magnetic field (H) and electric field (E) probes for radiated emissions EMC pre-compliance measurements. The probes are used in the near field of sources of electromagnetic radiation. They serve to locate and identify potential sources of interference within the building blocks of electronic assemblies. The probes act similar as wide bandwidth antennas, picking up radiated emissions from components, PCB traces, housing openings or gaps and from any other parts that could be emitting RF. The probes are usually connected to a spectrum analyzer. Scanning the probe over the surface of a PCB assembly or housing quickly identifies locations which emit electromagnetic radiation. By changing to a probe with smaller size, the origination of the emissions can be further narrowed down. Additional applications are RF immunity tests by feeding a RF signal into the probe and radiating it into potentially susceptible circuit sections: Furthermore the probes can be used in the field of repair or debugging to track down issues in RF signal chains by contact less measurement of RF signal levels. One more application is non- invasive measurement of RF building blocks such as modulators or oscillators. Frequency, phase noise and spectral components can be measured in conjunction with a low noise preamplifier.

Every set includes a SMB to SMA cable (0.75m)

    Frequency1 GHz - 8 GHz
Usage/ApplicationPre-compliance EMC testing applications above 1 GHz

CISPR 16 divides the frequency range into several bands and defines specific antennas for each of these bands. For the frequency range above 1 GHz, CISPR 16 specifies using wideband horn antennas for radiated noise measurements.

Standard wideband horn antennas for EMC applications are quite costly and cover a frequency range far wider than available on typical low cost EMC pre-compliance spectrum analyzers. In order to provide an antenna optimized for pre-compliance EMC testing applications above 1 GHz, Tekbox designed the TBMA4 double ridged horn measurement antenna. With its moderate price, it is an affordable product for radiated noise EMC precompliance testing and generating defined field strengths.

The TBMA4 is characterized from 1 GHz to 8 GHz and has a directional pattern typical for double ridged horn antennas.

The TBMA4 is a small double ridged horn antenna, with its radiating element made from edge plated PCB substrate. The housing is made from stainless steel. It is equipped with a standard female N-connector and comes together with a “pistol-grip” tripod. A standard ¼” thread on the bottom of the antenna makes it easy to connect it to most standard tripods.

Additionally, the antenna is equipped with an indexed mounting plate on its rear. The mounting plate has a 6mm threaded hole in its centre and radially positioned 4mm threaded holes in 45° steps, typical for most horn antennas.

    Product Brochure

Radiated emission tests are typically carried out in anechoic chambers, using antennas to pick up the radiated signals. Due to bandwidth limitations, several antennas are required to cover the complete frequency range. Furthermore, it requires much space and the cost of the equipment for a standard conformant setup is immense.
An engineer of a small or medium size enterprise usually has to rely on his experience and on best practice methods in order to design an EMC compliant product. Nevertheless, it is estimated that > 50% of products fail testing first time around. Anytime an engineer sends a new product for compliance testing, it is a shot in the dark. Failing is very expensive. Not only that re-testing costs are high, but also the project schedule and market introduction gets delayed.
What is needed is an affordable laboratory set up to measure radiated emissions in the own lab, prior to compliance testing. A TEM cell is the right piece of equipment for desktop testing of radiated emissions. Tekbox developed open TEM cells to cover the complete frequency range up to 2GHz and with usability even at frequencies beyond.
Combined with a spectrum analyzer, products can be tested before and after EMC related design modifications.  A set up with a TEM cell will not deliver exactly the same quantitative results as a measurement in a certified test house, however it will give an excellent indication on whether the design suffers from excessive radiated noise or not.  The engineer will clearly see, whether his changes improved or deteriorated the EMC performance or whether it remained unchanged. Using TEM cells eliminates the guesswork.

A TEM cell is a stripline device for radiated emissions and immunity testing of electronic devices. It is not a replacement, but due to its size and cost it is a convenient alternative to measurements in an anechoic chamber.

A TEM cell consists of a septum, the conductive strip in the centre section and walls which are connected to ground. The geometry is designed to present a 50Ω stripline. The device under test (DUT) is placed in between the bottom wall and the septum.

The TBTC0/1/2/3 are so called “open TEM cells”, which got no side walls for convenient placement of the DUT. It may pick up RF background noise, which however can be taken into account by doing a measurement of the cell output signal before powering on the DUT.

Tekbox open TEM cells got a better frequency response compared to standard TEM cells of similar size. TEM cells suffer from higher order wave modes which limit the usable bandwidth. A unique design feature of the Tekbox TEM cells implements resistance perpendicular to the desired propagation direction of the wave. Consequently higher order wave modes and resonances are suppressed.
All TEM cells are supplied together with a 50Ω/25W RF termination, a DC block to protect the spectrum analyzer or RF receiver input and a N-Male to N-Male coaxial cable.

The TBOH01 5uH LISN is a device required to setup conducted noise measurements of DC-powered devices.

It is designed to be used for EMC pre-testing in the frequency range of 150kHz to 110 MHz.
The LISN is inserted into the supply line of the DUT (Device Under Test). Conducted noise which is present at the supply terminals of the DUT can be measured at the BNC connector using a spectrum analyzer or a measurement receiver.

The source (supply) terminal and the DUT terminal are decoupled by a 5µH inductor.

    SPECIFICATIONS
    • Frequency range: 100kHz – 110MHz (1GHz, see figure 4 in the manual)
    • DC Resistance: 40 mΩ
    • Maximum current: 10A
    • Nominal operating voltage range: 0 – 60V DC *

    * The operating voltage range is limited to 60V DC for safety reasons. Though the component rating of the LISN is ≥ 200V, the positive supply voltage could accidentally be connected to the negative terminal of the LISN and thereby to the LISN housing. Under this circumstance, a DC voltage > 60V  could cause a lethal electric shock when touching the housing.
